Youth Mission 2015: All God's Creatures
Youth Mission 2015 is officially underway! We are working hard and having a great time. Our group is about 30 people strong everyday, between parents, church family members, middle schoolers and high schoolers. Check out our project explanations below and our pictures above. Pray for us as we serve all God's creatures this week!
Monday, July 13
We stay close to home on our first day of mission work. We operate out of UMC Evergreen as our home base, making pet beds, dog toys and pet treats for homeless animals right here in Evergreen. Evergreen Animal Protective League receives our donations and distributes them to animal foster homes in the Evergreen area.
Tuesday, July 14
On the second day of mission work, we head down east to Golden, where the Horse Protection League has its headquarters. 21 neglected, abandoned, and owner surrendered horses, ponies, and donkeys live in this haven recovering their strength, their health and their love for life. Along with the HPL volunteers we muck stalls, inventory salt licks, move hay bales, clean food trays, refill water troughs, and distribute some TLC to our equine friends by brushing and grooming. It's a long, hard day, but so worth it!
Wednesday, July 15
On the third day of mission work, we point the church van west toward Dumont, where we volunteer at Charlie's Place, the Clear Creek County Animal Shelter. There we read to dogs, chat with cats, take dogs for walks, frolic with dogs in the exercise yard, and spread mulch in the dog park. Lots of fun with our canine and feline friends!
Thursday, July 16
Thursday is our biggest travel day, as we head down south to Westcliffe, and the Mission Wolf: Wolf Sanctuary. There we will help prepare food and habitats for the wolves. It will be an exicting day for everyone!
Friday, July 17
On our final day of mission work for the week, we will head north to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keanesburg. We have sponsored a food drive for the bears at the Sanctuary, and on Friday we will be Meals on Wheels for the Bears! The church van, and a whole caravan of mini-vans and pick-up trucks and SUVs will deliver us, along with the bear food that we've collected, to the Sanctuary. We'll stay for one of their coveted tours as well. Can't wait!
