NeIGHBORING CHALLENGE

8 weeks to loving our neighbors better

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."
                                                                                        - Luke 10:27

Who is my neighbor? And how do I love them?
The focus of Jesus' time, energy, and teaching seemed to revolve around answering those two questions. The Church is meant to be the body of Christ in the world today. When people encounter us, do they encounter Jesus? When people think about us, does it tell them about Jesus?

Neighboring is about more than proximity. It is an act of love and grace. Neighboring well involves building authentic relationships, being vulnerable, intentional, and willing to move out of our own comfort zones to learn about the world from the point of view of another. From April 23-June 11, we will be learning about neighboring in worship and practicing it in our daily lives. Each week we'll receive a "challenge" - a way of intentionally moving toward becoming better and better at loving our neighbors in the places we live, work, and play.

Want to join us in the Neighboring Challenge? Check out this week's challenge below, and catch up on the ones you've missed! And please share your neighboring challenge stories with us too!

Challenge for May 21-27

Crossing cultures can happen in the time it takes to cross a street, peer over to another cubicle, or gland over to the treadmill next to us. How do we close the gap?

Crossing cultures involves take a journey. An emotional, spiritual, and intellectual journey that always begins with a physical journey. Take some time this week to intentionally engage with another culture.

Pick a community you are a part of and make a neighboring map. Then choose someone from your map that you don't know so well and commit to engage with them differently this week.

Week 4

This week, throw a 3-minute party for someone you encounter - by encouraging someone, by telling someone what you appreciate about them, by offering unexpected thoughtfulness, care, or joy.

Week 2

This week, let's be intentional about praying for our neighbors together.
Ask someone this week, "How can I pray for you?"

Week 3

Something unique and significant happens around the table. So this week, challenge yourself to grab a meal with a neighbor - no agenda, no overthinking, just good food and good conversation.

Do you have a "Neighboring Challenge" story?  We want to hear it!
