Death Within the Church Family

It is with sadness that I share the news that our dear friend and longtime church member, Lauren Alter passed away peacefully at home early this morning at the age of 95.

Lauren and his wife, Eileen, have been part of the UMCE family for more than 40 years, and this week they would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. Together they sang in the choir for many years, and Lauren faithfully served our congregation as Chair of the Trustees for more than 20 years. His steady leadership, generous spirit, and quiet faith helped shape our church in countless was, leaving a beautiful legacy of Lauren’s faithful care.

As we grieve Lauren’s passing, we also give thanks for a life well lived and for the promise of the resurrection that sustains us. Please keep Eileen and all of Lauren’s family and loved ones in your prayers in the days ahead.

A service celebrating Lauren’s life will take place at UMCE on Saturday, July 18 at 10 am.

May God surround Eileen and all who mourn with comfort and peace, and may we hold fast to the hope that, in life and in death, we belong to God.
