At the heart of Jesus’ teachings, we find an expansive goodness that refuses to let an empty table stand. In this parable, when the invited guests make excuses, the invitation is thrown wide to the streets and alleys to bring in the vulnerable and the overlooked. This is the “very good news” in action: a host who insists that the house be filled to capacity. As we gather for Communion, we celebrate that the table is not a restricted space, but one intended to be filled to the brim. Emulating Jesus means reorienting our lives to ensure there is always room for the neighbor and the stranger, drawing the circle wider until everyone has a place at the feast.
