A reflection from Pastor Sarah
Beloveds of the UMCE Community,
Grace and Peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ! I am writing to share a little bit about our Generosity Season at UMCE which is kicking off on Sunday, November 5! Our theme for this year’s Generosity Season is “Our Money Story.”
We all have a money story, whether we recognize it or not. Too often I think we talk about money with shame or guilt or apology. I believe that it’s time to reframe this conversation. Money and possessions and economic justice are common topics in the scriptures and Jesus taught about them often. The ways we use our financial resources, therefore, is a spiritual conversation, and our relationship with money tells our own narrative.
The story of The United Methodist Church of Evergreen has been one of faith and generosity. The truth is, we wouldn’t be here, ministering in the incredible ways we have without the generosity and faith of many of you. Because of your generosity, UMCE has been able to share the story of Christ’s love with one another and with our community, we have grown in trust and faith, persevered through hard times, and grown in personal and social holiness. This month, I want to invite you to think about the ways our UMCE community has blessed you, about why you give to UMCE, and what money story you are telling with your financial giving.
Over the next few weeks, we will be reflecting on our own personal stories, the story of our church, and God’s money story as told to us through scripture. We will hear from one another about the ways that this church has blessed and impacted our stories and tell and retell the story of the ways that God is at work in this place. At the end of this Generosity Season, you’ll be asked to make a commitment about how you are feeling called to contribute to the ministry and the story of UMCE for 2024. Pledge cards will be available in worship, through the mail, and online toward the end of the month.
I look forward to joining together for this season of celebration and commitment!
With Sincere Gratitude,
Pastor Sarah
